About the Network Charter School
Our program is made up of a number of Member Organizations who teach classes and provide educational resources at their sites, which are located throughout Eugene, and are easily accessible by bus or bike. Our central administrative office coordinates student admissions, scheduling, and general administrative functions. Students are admitted through a non-competitive interview process, during which each student develops a Personal Education Plan outlining how they wish to use their time at NCS.
Students at the Network Charter School have four classes in a given week, with a Monday, Wednesday, Friday rotation (morning and afternoon) and a Tuesday, Thursday rotation (morning and afternoon as well.) We expect of our students a high degree of responsibility, motivation, and personal maturity. Our program, with its long form classes (three hours each) and relatively great degree of freedom (we have an open campus, and students are expected to travel from class to class on their own, with the help of LTD buses) is not a perfect match for everyone. However, many students find that the openness of our classrooms, and the flexibility available to a motivated learner in a long-form class, allows them to explore their educational options in a way not previously possible.
Network Charter School students benefit from both the comparatively small size of our classes (10-15 students per class) and our 1:7 teacher/student ratio. Our teachers come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences and bring a wealth of experience and dedication to our classes, which range from cooking and science to history and web-design. We have a faculty largely composed of state-certified educators, though some who come to us largely through our association with the more practical aspects of our member organizations (professional artists, bakers and cooks, computer experts, etc.), are certified through the charter school system.
